Arkansas vs. Texas A&M

Arkansas played the Aggies on Saturday and it was closer than most people expected. The Hogs played the same game they usually play, however the Aggies were hot and seemed like they could not miss.

Moses Moody had another great performance solidifying himself as a first round draft pick maybe even a lottery pick. Moody had 28 points on 9-15 shooting, 5-8 from three, and 5-6 free throws. Jalen Tate put up 22 points alongside Moody, Devo Davis had 12 and Jalen Smith tacked on 11 as well. This performance from the Hogs pushed their winning streak in the SEC to 11 games. The last time the Razorbacks won 11 games straight in the SEC they went on to win the national championship in 1994. The heat and pressure is picking up for the Razorbacks and every major sports media is covering the hot Hogs and comparing this season to the championship season. At this point it feels like it’s championship or bust for Razorback fans.

The Aggies were on fire however, Emanuel Miller had 23 points on 8-15 shooting and he also went 7-7 from the free throw line. Quenton Jackson had 23 points as well shooting 9-15 from the field and 5-8 from three. Savion Flagg had 16 points on an efficient 7-11 shooting.

Head coach Eric Musselman was stated as saying, “Trust me, it’s difficult. Did we play great tonight? No. We played well enough to win and we buckled down the stretch when we had to get defensive stops,” the Razorbacks are pointing out their own flaws which is key for them to make a deep run in the tournament. The Razorbacks are still sitting at a three seed in the tournament but that may change depending on their performance in the SEC tournament.

During the first half of the game the Aggies and Hogs were in a very back and forth game. The Aggies went on an 18-2 run to close out the first half putting them up 41-38 at the end of the first half. Moody and Tate had 29 of Arkansas 38 points at the half. The Aggies had no answer for the duo and it still carried over into the second half as well.

It was still a pretty back and forth game throughout the second half as well. All the way up until the last minute of the game the lead had been no bigger than three points. With 56 seconds left in the ball game Moses Moody hit a clutch corner three to put the Hogs up by 1. Then with Texas A&M throwing the ball in Davonte Davis stole the inbounds pass where he found an open Justin Smith for the dunk which gave the Razorbacks more momentum for the last minute of the game. When asked about the inbounds steal Coach Musselman said “We talked about trying to get a piece of the ball as the guy guarding the inbounder with our staggered jumps. We were willing to gamble a bit instead of sit back and concede an inbounds pass. They were in the bonus and we didn’t want to foul and sometimes you can be overly aggressive,” according to ESPN.

Arkansas is still looking to keep their winning streak going into the SEC tournament to potentially put them at a two seed but they would have to catch the Iowa Hawkeyes which may not happen with Player of the Year Luka Garza leading them into the tournament. Even a three seed wouldn’t be bad for the Hogs as they wouldn’t have that difficult of a path to the Sweet 16 and would potentially have to knock off a top seed to get to the Elite 8 and even the Final Four. Musselman and the Razorbacks will have their work cut out for them but it isn’t an impossible task as anything can happen in March.
