I miss Obama

Politics are messy, vile, and this year’s election has taken them too far. However, if I were to vote this year, it’d be blue. Frankly speaking, both candidates aren’t amazing, however what sways my vote is the fact that the supreme court is trying to repeal the marriage equality act. And, I’m sure it’s the tipping point on the scale for many, many, others too.

Two conservative justices, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito, have very promptly, after the unfortunate death of the late Justice Ginsburg, voiced their excitement among republicans to reverse the act completely. Liberals of course are terrified, a good majority of the blue side are, in fact gay, big shocker there, but also, less conservative and dare I say, more open thinkers. To suggest that gay people should not be allowed to get married just the same as straight couples would is completely unfair. It’s stripping us of basic human rights.

It truly seems to me that the red side is ultimately trying to get every single minority group to revolt against them. In due time I suppose. My question is: Why? Why do they have to repeal an act that does no one any harm, isn’t it more work for them to take it away? It’s all just a spiteful and incredibly hateful way to bully people of the LGBTQ+ communities. I thought there was supposed to be a separation of Church and State, but the lines keep getting blurrier and blurrier.

The only reason I could see for demoting us below what should be our basic human rights is that the red side is trying to start another civil war. I really have a hard time believing that this is going to sit well with anyone that doesn’t own some sort of MAGA merchandise. This was a devastating turn to have Amy Coney Barret confirmed, it was the stone to sink our boat, so now, if red wins this election, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. I just hope it isn’t violent.

I saw that in New York, all the window front stores had completely cleared out. Violence is obviously what people expect, it’s scary. This is going to be the worst election yet, I only hope it doesn’t continue it’s tradition to get worse and worse as the years come. I’m becoming fearful for my rights. I want to be able to marry who I want to, I plan on calling her my wife regardless of any right or act that exists. If I can’t have a valid marriage license then so be it, but it comes down to commitment, that’s what marriage is to me, devoting your heart and soul to another person forever. I just don’t understand how they fail to see that fact. They’re treating marriage as a material construct, which yeah, for the red side, I think that’s what it is. It’s about old uncle Gage needing to find a wife to keep in the kitchen and to put on his tax forms and to give him his dreamy little redneck, backwater, stick-biting, gun-crazy, sons.

That’s not what it is to us. Regardless of any acts getting repealed I’m still going to get married, legal or not. It’s just the insult, the taunting of their power, they’re abusing it so blatantly and I don’t want to see anyone get hurt because of an election. America is taking a dark turn, and I’m scared for us all, some of us are losing our humanity, and some of us are losing rights. The corruption needs to be phased out, and the way this fight is looking, it’s only going to get worse. I miss Obama.
