Froggy Bread

Recently I’ve had a very strange idea. Froggy bread. Not bread made out of frogs but bread in the shape of a frog. An online friend and I have been obsessed with this idea for a while and I found a recipe online for it.

First off! Ingredients:

  • 6 cups unbleached flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups lukewarm milk
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup water

These are ingredients to make sturdy dough, but if you have a preferred recipe then by all means use that one if you want. I just found this one on the website I found.

Then I mixed together all of the dry ingredients, then the milk and enough water to make everything go into a doughy ball. Then I took it out of my bowl and on a flat surface and kneaded it for approximately 10 minutes. I put it back into a greased bowl, covered it with plastic wrap, and let rise for about (give or take) 90 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.

Now for the shaping first, I made the body by making a very rounded teardrop shape. For the hind legs just take a smaller dough ball and cut it in half and put it on the skinnier side of the teardrop shape. After that put two half disk-shaped at the meeting point and base of the hind legs and body. Then add two tube shaped pieces for the front legs. You can cut the edges of the feet for little fingers and toes. After that you add two balls on top of the body for eyes and then a cut under them for the frogs mouth. Let it rise for an hour!

After that I preheated the oven to 350. Right before that I covered it with an egg wash. I baked it for 45 minutes.

Honestly the effort that went into this bread was WORTH IT! It is the most beautiful looking frog I almost didn’t want to eat it. I really recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun with their baking.
