Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 came out January 25, 2019. It is the newest game in the ongoing series of Kingdom Hearts. I recently got all the games for Christmas but I decided to play the Newest game first. Why? Honestly I’m not sure, but I’m here to give my honest opinion on the game.

Game play wise it was pretty good. In the other games the health situation always seems to be a struggle. It always dropped really fast in about 3 hits, but in this game I rarely ever got close to dying. I only died once and that was to the final boss. Although there is one mechanic I found absolutely frustrating. When your fighting an end boss, if you get hit once, you get pulled into a long string of combos and it is extremely hard to get out of. It was a struggle to dodge and when I got hit it often left me with about ¼ of my health left. I often found myself over stocking on Potions for health because of this. It was infuriating. If it was easier to get out of then I wouldn’t have a problem but about 1 out of 5 times I could get out of it. I also couldn’t view the map fully. In the corner you could only see a small segment. I got lost quite a bit. At this point I’m just being nit picky.

The game starts off with you getting the type of game play you want. You can focus on more defense, magic, or fighting. Personally I went for the more fighter and defense standpoint. The one reason why I went with that is because the only spell you really use is the “cure” spell to heal, and that’s it. The other spells can be nice for when you pull many mobs all at once, but other then that you don’t use them. After that you get to start the story.

In Kingdom Hearts games you get to go through Disney worlds and fix their problems. In this game the worlds you go to are Toy Story, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Pirates of the Caribbean, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Monsters Inc. and Hercules. Overall I was slightly disappointed because most of the worlds in the game are just a replay of the movie only there were slight differences. The Tangled one was just like a replay and you never even interacted with the character’s much. The Pirates of the Caribbean was also quite boring. I was most excited for it, but it was quite a let down. Frozen was also boring. You didn’t do much and you never got to be with the characters in it. You spend most of the time in a maze and battling the elements, not really progressing the story. Although the Toy Story world hit it out of the park. They progressed the story in their own way, and it made sense. It kept you on your toes and showed new elements. The other worlds were all good too, but personally the Toy Story one was a personal favorite.

The main story line had many conclusions made and new enemies and stories to be discovered. There is also a secret ending which leads to what we think the next game will start off with or at least include. The creator said there will be at least one more spin off until Kingdom Hearts 4, so that’s something to look forward too. New characters will most likely be introduced and that is always exciting. Even though this is my first time experiencing this franchise I’m so excited to discover and play the previous games and the games to come.
